You love birds and like to watch them? Then maybe next March you would like to come to the Sierra de Gredos and participate in bird ringing sessions.
During the weekend of 14 and 15 March and on Saturday 21 March you can have a bird ringing taster session in the beautiful Iruelas Valley (Sierra de Gredos, Spain). The sessions aim to promote knowledge and appreciation of the region’s birds and generate information that will contribute to their conservation.
Scientific ringing is a method that has been practiced for over 100 years. It aims to understand what is happening to birds in the places they live. It generates information on the survival, productivity and movements of birds, helping us to understand why populations are changing. The capture of the bird also allows to know its gender and age and gives you the opportunity to observe the bird closely.
On Saturday, 14 March, the ringing takes place near the village of Navaluenga, following the Camino de Umbrias road. ON Sunday, 15 March, meeting point will be the Casa del Parque del Valle de Iruelas (House of the Iruelas Valley Park), at the Burguillos reservoir, Poblado de las Cruceras (village of El Barraco). And on Saturday, 21 March, the meeting takes place on the Valsordo Bridge in the village of El Tiemplo. In all cases, the ringing will last for four and a half hours, from 9.30 am to 1 pm.
The sessions are appropiate for children and adults, families, associations and groups, birdwatchers, nature lovers… They will be free of charge, however Algakon asks for inscription, which can be done until 12 March, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling (0034) 955 718 800.
And if you need a place to stay, no better choice than our country hotel La Josa.
